Day two in Japan and we visited Sunshine City as the sky opened up and drenched Tokyo and surrounds. One thing I suspect about the Japanese is their complete coverage of every social spectrum. Anything you can imagine exists here, in every manifestation, in every way. The Japanese it seems are a contradiction of themselves. Tokyo is a capital city with so many places devoted to peace, harmony, health, quiet and meditation. In a train station which has a turnover of approximately 200 million people a day, it is practically silence. Every time Quinn or Iggy demand something or even talk and play, people look around shocked and then amused when they see children - it's so peaceful and quiet it's amazing - no other place I have ever been could have this many people in such a small space and such a simple social respect.
And then completely on the other hand, on every corner is a games center filled with Japanese from 14 to 65 (approx. of course) and the noise and the music is the most extreme assault on my senses that I have ever experienced. Only Quinn can stand it and he is an extreme high energy boy.
We have been to temples - where the boys were given sweets for saying hello please and thank you in Japanese, which goes down extremely well here; an aquarium on the top floor of a huge shopping centre where we saw a fish in a plastic tank inside a glass tank - why? (Check out pictures) We have attempted to shop but everything is really expensive and we are buying for kids so our kids are demanding everything they see. Cameras and electronics are more expensive here than in Australia so that's a bummer! We have yet to see Fujisan the venerable mountain but are heading that way tomorrow.
